17th / 18th Jan

17th - Arrived, shown arround, given *very* detailed list of what's in the vet room and how much rat-shit was in the workings of the silly degrees Celsius, high-pressure autoclave, then taken out for a look at the other primate sanctuary in Calabar (where I bagged my first mantis shot of the expedition! See below) FOOD - First food in Nigeria was incredibly spicy fish at a road-side bar. I, obviously, ignored the pain in my face and ate a whole fish and half of two others. Got back to my room at abot 00:30, spent some time unpacking and then tried sleeping between 01:30 and 06:44.

18th - Reading the vet history for every monkey they've got or have have ever had. Then trying to put together a list of which monkeys have what history, live in which enclosure and are mates with whom. Slightly overwhelmed, but can handle it. More below:

So, yeah, I'mma be mopey for a couple of weeks, we all knew that. But it'll be fine, I think I know what I'm up to now...

Love the mantis. Also you. What anaesthetic do they have? Inhalational or just oxygen cylinder? O.F.
