March 1st - The Palm Stabbing.

Hello all, So, yeah, HDD died, HDD replaced, many hacks completed to get everything working again on *questionable* copy of XP I found. I'm back in the game.

Another reason I'm back in the game is that I was just awarded the Bill Wallace Grant, which has enabled me to afford to fix my computer and do various bits of science that I wanted to do. As well as, you know, eating.

Bill Wallace was an inspirational dude. He helped set up the John Muir Foundation, but was also an epic adventurer and believed that getting out in the wilds and making a difference was as good for the person as it was for the world. After his death, the organisation that he'd helped build, set up a memorial award to encourage the same behaviour in a whole new set of adventurers.

Go have a look:

So, yeah, they have my thanks and promise that I'll make a difference.
Right after I put up this 'blog post.

March 1st  - I'm a terrible partner.

Feb 28th

Jungle butterflies (this is why I don't like using my flash):

Feb 27th

Baby mantids under a leaf. Looking, to me, like a collection of plotting aliens.

Feb 26th

City lizard. Those are not *enhanced* colours.

Feb 25th

Set up a night bug trap:

Moths didn't give a damn, they were only attracted by my hanging sweat-soaked T-shirt.

Mantids liked the attracted termites and ants though.

Feb 24th

Ovipositing insects seem to have beaten us to the pop-rivet:

Feb 23rd

Went on a bit of a night bug hunt. As is my wont.

UV glow spider:

Tail-less whip scorpion with fully extended arm-span of ?55cm? maybe a little more

Not sure what type of bug this is:

Feb 22nd

Seed pods on the river bank? Or pink tribbles?

Damselfly looking EPIC in mardi gras colours:

Feb 21st

And here is a bush mongrel:

Feb 20th

Day off OBVIOUSLY means bug photos:

(That bit that looks like poor photoshopping, was hanging by spider silk)

My hand. Idiot.

My hammock. Not an idiot. In fact: quite wise.

One of the things that came to see me while I was sleeping in my hammock. Well over a foot long:

Feb 19th

Finished monkey-food catapult.

Feb 18th

Me doing useful manual labour.

Feb 17th

Same jungle, new cabin:

Right, not bad, ten days posted in half an hour. This written blog thing is *efficient*!
